Laser Skin Resurfacing from the Inside

Lasers are effective skin resurfacers, especially ablative lasers that basically vaporize the top layer of the skin to remove imperfections and damaged skin. The problem has always been after the procedure. Due to their aggressiveness, these ablative techniques have required some substantial recovery times as the skin weeps, crusts, scabs, and then forms new healthy skin to take the place of the vaporized skin. Ablative resurfacing also sometimes creates scarring on the patient’s skin, along with permanent changes in pigmentation.
That’s why we’re excited about the ClearLift™ non-ablative laser resurfacing option we offer at Northcoast Laser. ClearLift™ helps improve fine lines, wrinkles, redness, and skin tone, without any downtime.
What is a ClearLift™ resurfacing treatment?
In contrast to ablative lasers that target the skin’s surface layer, either through fully removing the surface layer or by creating fractional perforations, the ClearLift™ program delivers a dermal wound response in the body without harming the overlying epidermis. This way, all the stages of healing and repair occur under the epidermis, which is undamaged.
How does it work?
The ClearLift™ laser penetrates deeply beneath the surface of the skin (up to 3mm in depth). This application of heat in the dermis layer (the skin’s second layer) triggers a wound response from the body. This response includes new collagen production to support the “wound.” Collagen is the protein the body uses for structural skin support. As we age, our collagen production drops by one percentage point every year after the age of 20. That’s why our skin becomes more lax the older we get.
Where can I use the ClearLift™ laser?
Because ClearLift doesn’t damage the surface, it is gentle enough to be used on areas that are typically too sensitive to treat with ablative lasers. These areas include the delicate skin around the eyes, neck, mouth, and chest. We see the best results with a series of 3-5 treatments spaced three to four weeks apart. Then, thanks to the new production of collagen, your results continue to improve for the next six months.
Will there be a recovery period?
Unlike even fractional laser resurfacing, which requires a couple days for the skin to heal the microscopic channels created by the laser, ClearLift patients can return to work the same day as their session. Their skin may be slightly pink and warm to the touch for around 30 minutes after your treatment, but that’s all!
