Double Your Skin Healing with Infini™

MicroneedlingEveryone loves two-for-ones. Whether it’s for your favorite cocktail or your favorite restaurant, twofers are sweet.

Now Northcoast Laser Cosmetics offers Infini™, which combines two popular cosmetic procedures into one. This new procedure combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy delivered into the dermis. The result is a one-two punch to improve your skin.

How does radiofrequency energy tighten the skin?

Radiofrequency (RF) energy has been used for different medical treatments for over 70 years, but it was around the new century when it made its entry into the aesthetic world. Thermage was the first to market a device that was approved by the FDA to tighten skin and improve wrinkles. That was in 2002. Many others have come since.

The idea is to send RF energy through the epidermis down into the skin’s second layer, the dermis. This energy becomes heat, and when the dermis is heated the body responds as if wounded by producing new collagen to repair and support the skin. It causes a contraction and tightening of the skin.

How is Infini™ better?

At Northcoast, we like the Infini™ system better for two reasons. First, it combines microneedling with RF energy. Second, because the RF energy is delivered through the needles directly into the dermis, there isn’t any warming or harm of the epidermis. This can be a problem with other RF procedures. It’s very difficult to heat the dermis to a temperature that is effective and still maintain safe temperatures for the skin surface.

Infini™ uses very small needles (200 microns wide) that can be set to various penetration depths, from 0.5 to 3.5 mm. Different levels of the dermis can be treated in different passes, and it accommodates varying skin and dermis depths in different areas. The Infini™ needles are insulated and the RF energy is emitted from the end of each needle. This delivers the RF energy directly into the dermis without having to travel through (and damage) the epidermis. The further RF energy has to travel through tissue; the more pain is involved.

Adding microneedling to RF energy delivery has its set of advantages. Penetration of the epidermis with Infini’s microneedles stimulates fibroplasts in the skin to produce collagen (wound response). Plus, topical therapeutics can be applied to the skin after the procedure and can be delivered more deeply through the microscopic holes than they can when applied to the surface normally.
