Busting the myth
When we suggest dermaplaning to female clients, it’s not uncommon for them to ask about the common belief that shaving will lead to thicker hair when it regrows. Actually, that isn’t a misperception; it’s total hogwash.
The truth is shaving your face won’t make your hair grow thicker or darker. In reality, your hair follicles lie under the surface of the skin and shaving only cuts the hair off at the base. The hair follicle isn’t disturbed; your hair will grow back at the same rate and to the same texture that is it was before the procedure.
At the Northcoast Laser Cosmetics, dermaplaning is a two-step treatment. First, a sterile surgical blade is run gently across the top layer of the skin to remove unsightly fine hairs and dead skin cells. Afterwards, a light chemical peel is applied to help aid skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen production.
