Keeping a Food Diary to Help You Manage Acne

You probably know by now that acne is influenced by a combination of factors such as genetics, hormones, diet, lifestyle, and just recently — your gut bacteria! Here at our Mentor laser cosmetic practice, our treatment approach to acne is also multifactorial, that is we also take into account various factors before recommending the right products or procedures.
Since diet has been shown to play a large role in the occurrence of acne, keeping a food diary may just unravel what exactly is causing your acne. You do not have to speculate which of the ones you ate yesterday is causing your current flare-up! Although you may be already familiar with which foods to avoid acne, you may be surprised to find out that it wasn’t exactly the dairy in your glass of milk that is causing the pimples but rather the high-sugar content in the chocolate chip cookie!
Keep the food journal for at least a month and religiously write down what you ate and drink. You might also want to write down the degree and extent of your acne in correspondence to what you consume that day.
