Three Ways to Get Rid of Acne Scars
- Posted on: May 15 2015
Having acne itself is humiliating, but remaining scars after your face has cleared up add insult to injury. At North Coast Laser, we have three great options for addressing acne scarring.
Laser treatments can either be ablative or nonablative. The former rejuvenates the skin by damaging the outer layers of the skin, while the latter resurfaces the skin without damaging the outer layers. Many prefer nonablative laser treatments because there is minimal downtime and recovery is quick. Additionally, nonablative laser treatments help stimulate collagen formation in the dermis layer of the skin for firmer, more youthful skin.
The Pixel Perfect treatment at Northcoast Laser takes roughly 30 minutes per session and results are usually visible after a series of three treatments.
Our microneedling procedure with the Eclipse MicroPen™ is another effective tool for clearing acne scars. In this treatment, 12 tiny needles are used in unison to create microscopic wounds in the skin. The body responds to these wounds as if they were typical wounds (despite the fact that they usually fully heal within 24 hours) by producing collagen and elastin, two naturally occurring proteins that help support the skin. PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) treatment may be combined with microneedling to further soften the appearance of scars.
Aside from filling in folds and sunken cheeks, facial fillers are also superstars when it comes to softening the appearance of scars. Fillers work by elevating depressed scars.
