One of the most common concerns of our patients who undergo laser hair removal treatment here at our Mentor laser cosmetic practice is how they can exactly get the best results from the procedure. By and large, sufficient preparation is one of the key factors to making sure that you get the most out of your laser treatments. Read on below to learn how!
Laser treatment for hair removal is effective if there’s sufficient growth that is present. Thus, it is best to avoid plucking, threading, depilation and/or bleaching roughly 4-6 weeks before the treatment.
Shaving may be done a day before treatment to ensure uniformity in length but still leaves the roots underneath the skin. Too much surface hair may burn on the skin which can cause overheating. You can also shave in between sessions.
You might also want to avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before the procedure as laser works best when there is a huge contrast between the skin and hair colors. Dark hair and untanned skin is the perfect combination for the best results from laser hair removal treatment.
Self-tanners should also be avoided before treatment for the same reason as mentioned above. Formation of blisters is a common occurrence amongst those who make the mistake of self-tanning before a laser treatment.
Women who are pregnant or suspecting that they are pregnant may need to postponed their hair removal plans vial laser until they have given birth.
