Skin-Damaging Habits You Need to Stop ASAP

You probably know that squeezing your pimples or failing to remove your makeup before you hit dreamland are habits that will do you no good at all. Yet, there are other habits that you think are harmless but are actually stopping you from getting that naturally glowing skin. We outline them below.

  • Your love for hot showers. It’s perfectly okay to enjoy a steamy shower once in a while but doing it everyskin damaging habits day or staying in the shower for prolonged periods will lead to dry skin problems. The high temperature in the water robs your skin of its natural protective barrier, which also acts as a skin moisturizer. Hot water also opens the pores, making them appear larger than they really are and more noticeable.

  • Over-exfoliating. Like all things in life, moderation in skin exfoliation should be exercised. Using exfoliating products on a daily basis will lead to skin irritation, redness, and flakiness. Skin exfoliation once or twice a week is ideal.

  • Using heavily scented perfumes. The chemicals in heavily scented perfumes lead to skin irritation problems such as psoriasis in some people.

  • Eating a poor diet. The skin is the largest organ in the body and what you eat will have a ripple effect on the overall health of your skin. You don’t have to go full vegan or do a juice fast for a month. A good rule of thumb is to obtain at least 80 percent of your daily diet from foods that are nutrient-dense and whole or minimally processed.
