Spectra MDF Fractional Resurfacing Treatment

You may be already familiar with the age-old advice to stop munching on those chocolate bars unless you want to have an acne outbreak. Yet, did you know that such claim was actually proven by science to be not entirely true?

While most people assume that it could be the cocoa content that’s causing the flare-ups, it turns out that it was actually the sugar content in chocolate bars that’s exacerbating the acne.

Based on recent scientific findings, we have come up with the following eating guidelines to avoid those pesky pimples altogether:

  • Consume milk and other dairy products in moderation. A study done in 2005 by the Department of Health at the Harvard School of Public Health concluded that there are certain hormones in milk that can trigger acne breakouts. Consumption of skim milk was found out to result to the worst of all breakouts.

  • Avoid or limit your consumption of carbohydrates that have high glycemic index (GI) scores (foods whose sugar levels are absorbed quickly in the bloodstream). An Australian study in 2007 found out that young males who were strictly put on a low GI diet experienced significant improvement in their acne. High GI foods to avoid include white bread, pasta, milk chocolate, pastries, cakes, and other highly processed foods. On the other hand, low GI carbs that are ideal for those who want to avoid acne breakouts include whole grains, sweet potatoes, and fruits.

  • Increase your intake of foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, sardines, flax seeds, walnuts, and soybeans. Increase intake of these food sources have been shown in a study to lower rates of inflammatory disease, including acne. You can learn more about good omega-3 food sources here.
