Microneedling & PRP
We’re excited to offer Micro-Needling. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. It also creates micro-channels which allow topical gels, creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be added to this treatment. Your blood is drawn and spun down in a centrifuge. The serum obtained has essential growth factors which enhance the micro-needling treatment helping to improve damaged skin. Micro-Needling is indicated for the following skin conditions:
- Wrinkle Reduction
- Improvement in the skin’s texture and tone
- Improvement in pigmentation issues
- Softening of scars (both acne and traumatic scarring)
- Micro-Needling can be done on all areas of the body
- Including Platelet Rich Plasma in your treatment enhances the results of all the above mentioned benefits
Who performs the Micro-Needling treatment?
Depending on treatment goals (scar revision, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles etc.) our physician, nurse or estheticians will perform the procedure. Treatment for scarring requires an aggressive treatment protocol which the physician will perform. All other concerns require a light to moderate treatment for which the nurse or estheticians will perform.
Does Micro-Needling treatment hurt?
Overall the treatment is quite comfortable. The sensation is similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin. As with everything, some areas are more sensitive than others. A topical numbing cream can be used.
What is the downtime from Micro-Needling?
Immediately post treatment the skin can be slightly pink to a bright red. Total healing time depends on the aggressiveness of the treatment. Average healing time is 2-4 days with some patients healing completely in 24 hours.
When will I see results from Micro-Needling?
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
How many Micro-Needling treatments will I need?
For most patients with mild to moderate skin issues a series of 2-3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart is recommended. For those patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging or scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6 week intervals.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy for Microneedling
Platelet Rich Plasma is a concentration of platelets in the blood that are crucial to wound healing. When used for skin rejuvenation, PRP releases growth factors into the skin to speed up the bodies repair process. It stimulates new collagen and elastin.
A small amount of blood is drawn from you. The blood is placed into a centrifuge and is spun at a very rapid rate to separate the platelets from the other components of the blood. The PRP is then applied topically to the skin while the treatment is being done. The micro-channels created by the Mocro-needling provides a direct pathway to the deeper layers of skin for optimal rejuvenation. The procedure is ideal for smoothing find lines, wrinkles and acne scars. It increases plumpness and overall rejuvenation of the skin.
