What is platelet rich plasma?
Platelet rich plasma is blood enriched with platelets. A sample of your own blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood around and separates it into components. This isolates healing growth factors that can help promote healing and skin growth. Once the platelet rich plasma has been prepared, it can be injected into specific areas of the skin during cosmetic treatments. Because the patient’s own blood is used, this is a safe tool that doesn’t put patients at risk for allergic reactions.
How is platelet rich plasma used?
Platelet rich plasma (or PRP) helps to heal damaged skin tissue, promote the growth of new skin cells, and stimulate the production of collagen. It provides patients with a safe, subtle way to improve the appearance of their skin.
At Northcoast Laser Cosmetics, platelet rich plasma is used to enhance other cosmetic treatments and improve the healing process.
One procedure that can be enhanced with platelet rich plasma is the Micro-Needling.
Micro-Needling is used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, improve the texture and tone of the skin, soften the appearance of scars, and improve pigmentation issues. This procedure can be used on the face, but it can also be used on the rest of the body. This procedure may leave some temporary redness or soreness, but recovery is relatively quick and mild. Most patients recover completely within 2-4 days. Because the production of collagen is stimulated the appearance of the skin can continue to improve over the next few months.
Combining Micro-Needling with platelet rich plasma treatments can enhance all of the benefits of the Micro-Needling procedure.
