The SPECTRA laser, featured at Northcoast Laser MedSpa, offers a groundbreaking approach to tattoo removal. By precisely targeting ink particles, it effectively breaks them down without damaging the surrounding skin, minimizing the risk of scarring.
This advanced method ensures a safer and more effective way to remove tattoos, catering to those seeking to restore their skin's natural appearance.
The laser delivers a quick (in billionths of a second) and high energy pulse which is absorbed by the pigment in the tattoo. This energy breaks the pigment into particles small enough for removal by the body via the lymphatic system.
Ease of removal depends on its color, depth, age of tattoo, chemical composition of inks and other factors. Black, red, dark orange and dark blue tattoos will respond quickly to treatment while certain colors such as green, purple, brown, light orange and light blue colors may respond more slowly. Most tattoos require a number of treatments at 6 – 8 week intervals with the average tattoo taking anywhere from 3 to 13 treatments for clearing.
The treatment itself is described as a rubber band snapping sensation. Most of our patients say getting the tattoo was more painful than having it removed. We do offer a numbing agent that can be applied 30 – 45 minutes prior to the treatment if needed. Immediately after treatment, your tattoo may become somewhat whitish and swollen with a red halo surrounding it. This subsides with icing. The Northcoast Laser MedSpa have developed a post-care treatment protocol to help promote the best esthetic outcome once treatment is complete.

The SPECTRA laser is highly effective for tattoo removal, offering one of the most advanced solutions available. It uses multiple wavelengths to target and break down ink particles of various colors and depths within the skin. This versatility allows the SPECTRA laser to effectively diminish the appearance of unwanted tattoos over a series of treatments, making it suitable for a wide range of ink colors and skin types. Patients can expect a significant reduction in the visibility of their tattoos, with the potential for complete removal depending on the tattoo’s size, age, color, and ink depth.
During a SPECTRA laser tattoo removal session, you'll wear protective eyewear to safeguard your eyes from the laser light. The device is then passed over the tattoo, emitting quick pulses of light that penetrate the skin to break up the ink particles. Sessions typically last from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the tattoo's size and complexity. While some discomfort is common, many patients compare the sensation to the snap of a rubber band against the skin. Northcoast Laser Medspa utilizes cooling techniques to enhance comfort during the procedure.
The number of sessions required for complete tattoo removal with the SPECTRA laser varies depending on several factors, including the tattoo’s age, ink depth, color, and the individual's skin type. On average, Patients may need between 5 to 10 sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. During your initial consultation at Northcoast Laser Medspa, our specialists will assess your tattoo and outline a personalized treatment plan, providing you with an estimated number of sessions needed for your specific situation.
